US company invests US$ 9 million to build aerospace components in Baja California

A U.S. company operating in Mexico under the name of RKern Marketing & Distribution invested US$ 9 million to install operations in Baja California aimed at the production of engine components for the aerospace industry.

The plant is located in the urban development of Valle de Las Palmas, between the municipalities of Tijuana and Tecate, and according to state authorities, it will generate 350 jobs during its first year of operations, a figure that will increase over a period of no more than five years, although it was not specified how much.

It is worth noting that in the city of Tijuana, another plant has been operating for some years under the name of RKern Manufacturing, which is dedicated to the manufacture of parts for air fuselages, although for the time being it has not been possible to establish whether there is any relationship between these two companies.

According to data from the Ministry of Economy, between 2014 and 2017, US$ 207.9 million were invested in Baja California for the manufacture of aerospace equipment, ranking this industry fourth among the activities that generate the most Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Currently, 90 aerospace companies operate in the state and employ about 33,000 people.
