In just four months, Vestas has received almost 600 MW in orders as a result of the auction held in Mexico last year, which accounts for 53% of the total wind capacity allocated.
Most recently, the company received an order for the supply and installation of 27 V136-3.45 MW wind turbines for a 93 MW wind park in the Northeastern state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
“With the order, Vestas’ order intake from Mexico’s energy auctions reaches almost 600 MW, which indeed highlights our strong market position and auction capabilities in this key market”, says Marco Graziano, President of Vestas Mediterranean.
The contract, derived from the second Mexican auction held last year, includes the supply and installation of the wind turbines as well as a short-term Active Output Management (AOM5000) service contract. Delivery of the wind turbines is expected for the third quarter of 2018, whilst commissioning is planned for 2019.
“With more than 300 MW of installed capacity, the state of Tamaulipas is leading wind energy production in Mexico. Vestas has more than 700 MW installed or under construction in the state, including the largest wind park to be built in Mexico, also in Tamaulipas. Mexico is a key market for Vestas and our long-term localization strategy to manufacture our V136-3.45 MW blades in Tamaulipas is pivotal to our strong offering in the market”, highlights Angélica Ruiz Celis, Vestas’ Managing Director for Mexico and Northern LATAM.
Vestas pioneered the Mexican wind energy market back in 1994 when it installed the first commercial wind turbine in the country. The company has more than 1.5 GW of wind turbines either installed or under construction in Mexico.
