Virginia-based Strongwell Corp. opened a new US$ 15 million manufacturing plant in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, to supply pultruded profiles for Mexican ladder manufacturer Grupo Cuprum.

Pultrusion is a continuous molding process whereby reinforcing fibers are saturated with a liquid polymer resin and then carefully formed and pulled through a heated die to form a part. Pultrusion results in straight constant cross section parts of virtually any shippable length.

The 83,000-square-foot facility was built in 2016 on 7 acres and can be expanded to about 110,000 square feet, if necessary.

According to state authorities, the plant will employ 100 initially and 200 in the medium term.
