MEXICO — During 2019’s second quarter, Viva Aerobus registered a US$63 million net profit, which represented an increase of more than 100% compared to the first three months of the previous year.

"This is a significant achievement even though there’s an inflationary environment in terms of airport costs and a high level of competition," said Juan Carlos Zuazua, general director of Viva Aerobus.

Between April and June, the airline inaugurated the Los Mochis-Monterrey, Mazatlan-Tijuana, Cancún-Tijuana, Los Cabos-Tijuana, Cancún-Hermosillo and Los Cabos-Hermosillo routes and integrated its Tuxtla Gutiérrez-Puebla and Monterrey-Las Vegas routes to its annual schedules, after they were only seasonal.

Similarly, in June it launched a new international route with the start of the Cancun-Camagüey, Cuba flight, after this operation was exclusively charter.

In terms of fleet, the airline received four new A320neo aircraft, reaching a total fleet of 34 units, with an average age of 3.9 years.

“The challenges continue, as well as the confidence in our strategy, backed by an ultra-low-cost business model with operational efficiencies that translate into direct benefits for our clients,” added Zuazua
