Volkswagen SUVs in Mexico dominate the market

SUVs manufactured in Mexico propelled Volkswagen to the top spot in sales in the country at the start of 2026; the automaker sold over 18,150 units in the SUV segment during the first quarter of the year, a result driven primarily by the performance of the Taos and Tiguan, models assembled in Puebla that remain among the most in-demand vehicles in the Mexican market.
During the first three months of 2026, the Volkswagen Taos sold 4,901 units, while the Tiguan sold 4,899 vehicles. Both models produced in Puebla established themselves as key drivers of Volkswagen’s leadership in the domestic SUV market.
Domestic production of the Taos and Tiguan also reinforces Puebla’s importance within the Mexican automotive industry. The Volkswagen plant located in the state is part of one of the country’s most significant manufacturing operations and plays a strategic role within the North American supply chain.
The company highlighted that its SUV lineup features equipment focused on connectivity, safety, and performance—features that have gained prominence among Mexican buyers.
