Walmart announces investment in Tamaulipas

Walmart de México announced an investment of US$123 million to open more than 20 new units in Tamaulipas, which will generate more than 1,300 direct jobs in the state.
The announcement was made during a work meeting, where company executives, including Javier Treviño, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs of Walmart de México y Centroamérica, and Rodrigo Flores Amezcua, Director of Institutional Relations of Walmart México y Centroamérica, presented their expansion plans.
In addition to job creation, the investment includes the development of a program to support small agricultural producers in order to strengthen local supply chains. The company also emphasized its interest in promoting Tamaulipas suppliers, facilitating the marketing of regional products in its stores.
During the meeting, which was attended by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya and the Secretary of Economy, Ninfa Cantú Deándar, economic strategies underway in the state were discussed and the importance of private investment in regional growth was highlighted. Cantú Deándar reaffirmed the State Government’s willingness to collaborate with the company in the expansion of its operations.
Javier Treviño emphasized that Walmart de México maintains collaboration with the federal government in initiatives such as the Package Against Inflation and Famine (PACIC), which seeks to stabilize the prices of basic products.
The investment announcement follows a meeting held in December 2022 at the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C., where Walmart de Mexico presented its expansion plans to the governor of Tamaulipas and the Ministry of Economy.
Walmart de México currently has an accumulated investment in Tamaulipas of more than US$340 million, with 77 units that generate employment for more than 3,800 people in the state.
