Weidmann inaugurates new plant in Coahuila

The Swiss company Weidmann inaugurated its new plant "Cerritos" in Saltillo, Coahuila, dedicated to electrical technology. The facility represents an initial investment of US$30 million and contemplates the creation of 750 formal jobs.

During the opening ceremony, public and private sector representatives highlighted the factors that influenced the decision to establish the plant in the region, including the availability of skilled labor, the state's strategic location and security conditions.

Blas José Flores González, head of the state government's Cabinet and Strategic Projects, pointed out that the collaboration between authorities and private initiative has contributed to generate an attractive environment for new investments. He assured that labor stability and competitiveness levels have been key elements in this process.

On behalf of the company, Franziska Tschudi Sauber, president of Weidmann's Board of Directors, emphasized that the plant reinforces the company's commitment to the electrical technology sector, in which it has more than 150 years of experience. In Saltillo, the company will develop insulation technology for electrical transformers.

Maximilian Veit, CEO of the Weidmann Group, informed that the company has operations in more than 30 countries and collaborates with clients in the energy sector worldwide. In turn, Jurg Brunner, head of ETBA (an associated company of the group), said that more than 200 million Swiss francs could be invested internationally in projects in the medium term.

Aldo Ayala, general manager of Weidmann Mexico, commented that a gradual expansion is foreseen in the next two to three years, both in the new plant and in the existing facility in Saltillo dedicated to medical technology, which generates 67 formal jobs and produces one million plastic components for the medical industry.

According to Ayala, one of the determining factors for establishing operations in Coahuila was the perception of safety in the region, as well as the quality of the local labor force.
