Zacatecas invests more than US$7.4 million in Public Works
The Secretary of Public Works, Mildret Karla Montes Inchaurregui, reported that the department has recorded an investment of more than US$7.4 billion in over 1,700 projects and initiatives during her appearance before the Committee on Urban Development, Mobility, and Public Works of the LXV State Legislature.
The secretary noted that most of these projects have already been completed, while the others are either underway or about to begin.
Regarding highway maintenance, he highlighted that over the past five years, more than US$6.2 billion has been allocated to the restoration and maintenance of 3,478 km of roads and highways, in addition to paving 1,000 streets, building and modernizing roadways, addressing conflict points at vehicle crossings, and reconstructing 24 bridges, as well as various drainage projects. Of that investment, US$4.2 billion was allocated during the reporting period, with goals aimed at benefiting 42 municipalities.
The official emphasized that 70% of the state highway network is currently in good condition.
Among the actions reported, he noted that in Fresnillo, the rehabilitation of 60 km of the road network has been completed; restoration and maintenance work is currently underway on 260 km; and 13 projects are in the contracting process to restore an additional 80 km, funded solely by the state.
In Guadalupe, 40.48 km of road were repaired and maintained; in addition, paving was completed on 23 streets, and another 20 are currently in the contracting process. In Luis Moya, the four-lane widening of a five-kilometer stretch of the highway to Tierra Blanca was completed.
Montes Inchaurregui noted that, in coordination with the federal government, more than US$1.7 billion will be allocated this year to highway rehabilitation and the construction of rural roads. The program aims to repave 588 km, maintain 2,041 km of the federal toll-free highway network through pothole repair, and construct four rural roads totaling 13 km in length.
In civil engineering, he reported an investment of US$606 million for more than 82 projects that have been planned, executed, and delivered. He also added that work on the Zacatecas–Aguascalientes toll road will begin in November.
