Suburban train to AIFA to start operations in 2024

MEXICO - It will not be until next year when the Suburban Railway branch to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will begin operations, due to the effects of social conflicts and the delay of resources for its construction.

This was confirmed by Maximiliano Zurita, CEO of CAF Mexico, who commented that at the request of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) the civil work will be completed this year.

"We had to release the rights of way, solve the social conflict in terms of meeting the demands that the SICT and other secretariats are resolving and we have been able to enter all the sections that we have to build recently. Now what remains is to work intensely to shorten the times and have the service as soon as possible", he said.

It is worth mentioning that according to the federal government this project would start operations by the end of this year.

Within the framework of the XXI Exporail 2023, he explained that they are already moving cargo tracks to make way for passenger tracks and soon the construction of three railway viaducts will begin simultaneously.

Regarding the financial resources, he commented that they expect to have at the end of this month close to US$360 million additional, while for the second half of the year the total financing will be ready.

This work foresees an investment of US$1.3 billion for the construction works carried out by Sedena and the SICT, as well as by the concessionaire of the railroad, Ferrocarriles Suburbanos, a CAF Mexico company, which will owe US$831 million for this work.

Regarding the study of the feeder routes for this branch line, he specified that it is still in process, but should be ready in approximately three months.
