Mexico Acquires Second C-130J Super Hercules Aircraft

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico has congratulated the Mexican Air Force and U.S. defense and aerospace company Lockheed Martin on the acquisition of a second C-130J Super Hercules aircraft.

The embassy described the acquisition as “another achievement for the strategic alliance” between the United States and Mexico. It also highlighted the purchase as “a step that strengthens our trade ties and bilateral cooperation on regional security,” according to a social media post.

In July, reports indicated that the Mexican Air Force had acquired its first C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter to strengthen its cargo transport fleet and operational capabilities.

With the acquisition, Mexico became the first country in Latin America to operate the C-130J, the latest version of the Hercules aircraft family. Lockheed Martin describes the model as offering enhanced range, payload capacity and operational performance.

The U.S. aerospace and defense company reported that Mexico’s Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) received its first C-130J in January 2026.

According to Lockheed Martin, the C-130J can perform more than 20 types of missions, including disaster relief, airdrops, search and rescue, firefighting, medical evacuation, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and space operations.

The latest version features an extended fuselage that provides an additional 4.5 meters of cargo space, along with advanced avionics, increased range and speed, and improved survivability. These capabilities enable the aircraft to support a wide range of military and humanitarian operations.
