The Largest Inland Port in Mexico
MEXICONOW Staff ReportInterpuerto Monterrey is not only Mexico’s largest inland port, besides its strategic location, scale, connectivity and services, Interpuerto Monterrey provides an unparalleled manufacturing and logistics platform that makes it unique.
According to CEO Silvano Solis, Interpuerto Monterrey “offers an integrally planned development that provides alternatives and solutions which allow our customers to differentiate themselves from their competitors, by being one step closer to the North American market”
“2013 was a year full of milestones for Interpuerto Monterrey: Tubacero -our first customer- started operations of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for 9-foot diameter helical pipes.” During 2013 Mondelez International, one of the world’s largest snack companies, invested over US$600 million dollars in developing the largest cookie manufacturing plant in the world at Interpuerto Monterrey.
Mr. Solis believes that “2014 is going to be a good year for economic growth. Our main goal is to broaden our customer’s commercial networks and trading systems, while reducing costs and guaranteeing the safe and effective movement of their products. This can be achieved by establishing operations within the premises of Interpuerto Monterrey.”
Interpuerto Monterrey has triggered public infrastructure investments by Federal and State Governments alike, providing the region with a suitable environment that fosters large scale commerce and consolidates Nuevo Leon as an international infrastructure platform. This has been accomplished taking into account the Federal Government’s strategy of turning Mexico into a highly added value logistics and manufacturing hub.
Interpuerto Monterrey counts with internal roadways built with hydraulic concrete, security cameras placed at the entrance points covering all the Interpuerto road connections to Monterrey’s metropolitan area and main trade routes into the U.S. and Mexico; all this in order to support the operation of the companies established at our land port”, said Solis.
In regard to other features Interpuerto Monterrey provides customers with services such as a Customs Inspection Point, a RFE (Free Trade Zone) with the highest level of security, along with an internal railroad loop, logistics center and an area for retail and office space.
Interpuerto Monterrey offers many advantages: Connectivity is granted by the roads and railways, having access to the most influential ports in the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean and to international trade routes in the United States and Mexico. “Interpuerto Monterrey meets the highest quality infrastructure standards. The convergence of Mexico’s main roads and rail operators connect Interpuerto Monterrey with Mexico and the rest of the Americas. ¿What are the results? Our customers will save time and money.” said Solis
Silvano Solis explains that Interpuerto Monterrey was conceived bearing in mind three important pillars: Economics, social impact, and the environment.
“Keeping the environment in mind, we have contemplated developing a photovoltaic park of 3 MW during the second phase of the project,” said Mr. Solis. “We have taken the surroundings into consideration by designing a program to rescue endemic plants and cactus that are being replanted in all the green areas within Interpuerto Monterrey.” Solis added
“Interpuerto Monterrey -Mexico´s largest inland port- was conceived in response to the regional quest of making North America´s transportation backbone, more competitive and efficient. Although Interpuerto Monterrey is part of the State of Nuevo Leon´s infrastructure platform, this inland port is not located in Northern Mexico, but in the center of North America.”
“Like no other inland port in Mexico, Interpuerto Monterrey combines water and gas capacity, electricity feasibility, with an ideal location and a master planned development. With all this benefits taken into account, by the time things have reached the final phase, Interpuerto Monterrey may well employ over 50,000 workers”, said Interpuerto Monterrey’s CEO, Silvano Solis.Â
