Expansion of export lanes at Colombia-Laredo port inaugurated

NUEVO LEON - As part of the modernization works carried out at the Colombia-Laredo port, the expansion of the export lanes was inaugurated.

With this, the cargo and tourism flow lanes in the direction of Texas and the United States will increase from three to five, which also implies a total reconstruction of the roadway, which was rebuilt from scratch in hydraulic concrete.

“This region is economically the most powerful and it was essential for Nuevo León to create this cluster and for us to be increasingly connected with Texas, and what better than our small 9-kilometer customs office, since it now has roads and new lanes for trade to continue”, highlighted the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García.

Among other things, the works included the expansion of the crossing booths, from 7 to 13; the installation of a new Civil Force Base, increasing from 35 to 350 elements on duty 24 hours a day.

In addition, the construction of entrance and exit arches was carried out, renewing visually the accesses to the Port; the creation of the Integral Attention Module for the Paisano was also concluded, as well as the construction of the Housing Complex for Employees of Companies Installed in the Port.

“Today we have more than 1,000 police officers guarding the border between Nuevo León and Texas, which makes it the safest customs port in all of Mexico. That is why by having these roads, this security, we are the only Customs office that allows the United States to carry out joint inspections. Instead of stopping twice, a review by Mexican authorities and a review by U.S. authorities, the Mexican authorities pass through on the Laredo side, and together in five minutes they review you and you are exporting,” García Sepúlveda pointed out.

In particular, the renovation of Highway 01 North or Monterrey-Colombia and the construction of the La Gloria Colombia Highway have allowed cross-border crossings to grow from around 3,200 per day to a current figure of more than 6,500, according to the Government of Nuevo Leon.

With this comprehensive modernization of Customs and the opening of La Gloria-Colombia, these crossings are expected to triple in the next few years.

Marco Antonio González Valdez, Secretary of Regional and Agricultural Development of Nuevo León, pointed out that with this project, the border went from being underutilized to being the fastest and safest in Mexico.

“By 2030, this customs office must be providing 18,000 daily crossings to consolidate our position as the most important cross-border logistics city in Mexico and the United States,” said González.

Present at the opening were Juan Manuel Morton González, Municipal President of Anáhuac; Juan Carlos Mendoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo, Texas; as well as Emmanuel Loo, Undersecretary of Investment of Nuevo León.
