Five new airports to be built in Mexico

Several state governments in Mexico, together with Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA), are considering the construction of five new airport terminals, which will seek to benefit the movement of citizens more efficiently through these routes.
The construction project aims to build five new air terminals, distributed across Baja California, Guanajuato, Jalisco, and Quintana Roo. According to ASA CEO Carlos Manuel Merino Campos, two of these terminals will be located in the San Miguel de Allende and Ensenada areas.
During his participation in the Airports Council International (ACI) Congress, the official stated that in the latter case, there is interest from the state and municipal governments and a business group.
Similarly, Merino Campos added that the initiative seeks to improve the development of these regions for the benefit of the economy in all areas.
“The Guanajuato state government has also formally requested the construction of an airport near San Miguel Allende, with tourism potential, which is very important, as we know,” added the official.
In the case of the state of Jalisco, there are plans to build two airports, one in the Costa Alegre area and another in Lagos de Moreno. With regard to Quintana Roo, two options are being considered: in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres or in the northern region of the state.
It may take several years to complete the construction of these projects, as various feasibility studies are being carried out, as well as studies on the size of the airports, which will require approximately 500 to 1,000 hectares of land.
