Car Sales Fall in July

Consumers and businesses purchased 124,480 new light vehicles from distributors in Mexico last July. This figure, which is 780 units lower than the result for the same month in 2024, represents a marginal decline of 0.6%.
Although fewer vehicles were sold than last year, it should be noted that the market has managed to maintain a certain momentum despite various factors that reduce certainty and discourage growth.
July's result represents the third-best volume for that month in the last 10 years, surpassed only by the 132,109 units sold in 2026, the year with the highest sales figure to date, and by the 125,260 vehicles sold a year ago.
Cumulative sales so far this year reached 833,824 units in the seventh month, a negative difference of 0.3% (just over 2,500 vehicles) compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry, the best-performing automakers in July were Subaru and Isuzu, with sales increases of 79.7% and 63.7%, respectively.
Other notable cases were Mitsubishi and Mazda, with significant increases of 26.3% and 17.1% in the same order, as well as Nissan, which closed the seventh month with 13.3%, helping it gain one-tenth of a percentage point of market share in the domestic market.
In the case of Mazda, market share increased by two-tenths of a percentage point.
Of the Big Three in Detroit, only Stellantis recorded a positive performance in July, with an increase of 4.5%. However, in its cumulative sales for the year, the multinational company continues to show a decline of 7.9%.
Ford and General Motors, meanwhile, reported declines of 6.3% and 6.8%, respectively, in their July volumes.
In the premium segment, BMW reported a solid increase of 8.5%, including figures from its subsidiary Mini, while Lexus and Land Rover saw gains of 10.4% and 12%, respectively.
Audi had a more modest upturn of 3.7%, while Mercedes-Benz recorded a 39.4% drop in sales for the seventh month of the year.
