Aerospace sector outlook positive despite uncertainty

The aeronautical sector began the year with a positive and encouraging outlook; although uncertainty arose along the way due to tariff issues, the industry has managed to stay on track, said Luis Lizcano, executive president of the Mexican Aerospace Industry Federation (FEMIA).

“We are not exempt from the situations that are arising in foreign trade, but what we perceive is that, first the country and then our sector, we are confident that, after all the trials we are going through, we will emerge stronger in comparison with the international context,” he said.

In an interview with A21, the business leader mentioned that although the figures for the value of the Mexican aerospace market have not yet been published, FEMIA estimates that in 2024 it reached between US$10.7 billion and US$11 billion.

He reiterated that the economic outlook for this sector for 2025 remains positive and, despite current issues such as tariffs and the renegotiation of the trade agreement between Mexico, the United States, and Canada, the sector has a long-term perspective.

The Executive President of FEMIA said that they have had meetings with the Ministry of Economy (SE), and that there is great empathy with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on aerospace industry issues.

For this reason, he said, they are very grateful and, as the aerospace sector, they will rise to the occasion.

“We are moving forward. These are processes, and when it comes to the development of an industrial sector, they can take decades. The continued development of this industry in the country is a success story,” he said.

Lizcano highlighted the great momentum that the Mexican Aerospace Fair (FAMEX) has had with the sector, as well as the great effort and support from the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) for the sector that has been developing.

He also highlighted the work that young people in the country have been doing, because in addition to wanting to be content developers, there is a large generation that is interested in careers in science, technology, and mathematics.

“I believe that this is one of the factors for success in the new development of the aerospace industry in Mexico, because we have a generation of young people with a lot of talent, and we hope that this will continue,” he said.
