A quarter of the foreign direct investment (FDI) that arrived in Mexico from January through September 2017 was attracted by the automotive industry, said Angel Villalobos, FDI general director at the Ministry of Economy.
During the first nine months of 2017, the investment captured by the country totaled US$ 21.75 billion; of this total, more than 5 billion dollars went to the automotive sector.
"The automotive industry has been one of the main pillars of attracting investment to the country," Villalobos said in an interview to news outlet Reforma.
During the 5 years of the current administration the industry has received US$ 26 billion in FDI, which is 1.5 times what was received overall in the previous presidential term.
