Nissan leads as Mexico’s largest auto producer; GM outperforms it in exports

From January through October 2017, Nissan built 724,268 vehicles at its three assembly plants in the country, consolidating its status as the leader automaker in Mexico, followed by General Motors with 649,294 units manufactured also at three plants, and FCA Mexico with 532,593 vehicles built at two facilities, according to data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA).
However, General Motors led as the biggest auto exporter in the country during the same ten-month period to 544,198 vehicles shipped to foreign markets, namely the U.S. which is the main destination of Mexico’s auto exports. FCA Mexico was second biggest exporter with 492,747 units and Nissan ended up third to 405,314 vehicles.
From January through October 3,194,872 cars and light trucks rolled out of assembly plants established in Mexico, a record figure and a 10% hike compared to the same ten-month period of 2016.
Year-to-date exports through October totaled 2,575,361 vehicles, a growth of 11.7% and also a record high for a ten-month period.
