Trion Deepwater Project Begins Operations

Development activities have started at the Trion oil field, a major deepwater energy project located in the Gulf of Mexico. The project is being developed through a partnership between Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos, marking a significant step forward for offshore oil production in Mexico.
With an estimated investment exceeding $10 billion, the project is one of the largest and most technologically complex initiatives in the country’s energy sector. The development involves ultra-deepwater operations that require advanced drilling technology and specialized infrastructure.
The field is located roughly 180 kilometers off Mexico’s coast in waters reaching depths of about 2,500 meters, making it one of the most challenging offshore environments in the region. The project is expected to strengthen Mexico’s presence in deepwater oil exploration and production.
Beyond extraction, the development of Trion is also expected to stimulate economic activity through the creation of supply chains, new industrial opportunities, and increased participation from specialized service providers.
Production from the field is projected to begin toward the end of the decade, reinforcing the long-term role of offshore resources in Mexico’s energy strategy.
