FEMIA highlights collaboration of Mexican-Brazilian companies

The A21 website reported on the Brazilian Army’s interest in seeking out Mexican companies as suppliers. In this regard, FEMIA Executive President Luis Lizcano noted that it will be necessary to thoroughly analyze the scope of this possibility.

Lizcano also noted that it will be crucial to identify the specific requirements of the Brazilian Army.
“This was just an initial inquiry, where they sent us the information. They are requesting certain commodities—specifically machined parts, sheet metal, composite materials, and other items—but in very general terms; we need to review the details, knowing that there is interest on Mexico’s part,” he added.

He noted that orders like these are a boon for the Mexican sector, as they will translate into additional business. He also pointed out that Brazilian companies, such as Embraer, have a presence in Mexico; the interiors of the Embraer E195-E2—the model operated by the Mexican airline—are manufactured here.

In the case of the Mexican aerospace industry, it has the technological capacity to build a complete aircraft—such as the Halcon 2. But to build larger aircraft, factors such as demand and market conditions must align, and there needs to be an entity to coordinate all these aspects into a single program.

He noted that, in the case of the Mexican armed forces, they do work with the domestic sector on procurement; he also added that an agreement was signed with Anahuac University to develop an aerospace engineering laboratory.

Lizcano pointed out that there is interest in conducting joint operations for the armed forces.
