Port of Lazaro Cardenas: Making progress in decarbonization

The Lazaro Cardenas National Port System Administration (ASIPONA) strengthened international cooperation on environmental issues by sharing its decarbonization strategy with officials from the Honduran Seaports Authority during a virtual meeting held in conjunction with World Environment Day. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss actions focused on reducing emissions within port operations.

The “Port Decarbonization” meeting was held with the aim of promoting the exchange of knowledge, strategies, and best practices related to reducing the carbon footprint in maritime and port activities. Additionally, the meeting sought to strengthen collaboration among port administrations committed to environmental sustainability.

During the event, staff from ASIPONA Lazaro Cardenas presented a talk titled “Decarbonization Strategy,” in which they outlined various actions implemented within the port facility to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and move toward more sustainable operations.

The presentation provided an opportunity to share experiences regarding environmental initiatives currently underway at the Michoacan port, aligned with global sustainability challenges and international commitments aimed at mitigating climate change.

The virtual meeting also served as an opportunity to strengthen dialogue among port authorities in the region. Participants exchanged information on projects, mechanisms, and strategies that promote the transition toward more efficient, resilient, and environmentally responsible ports.

Through this participation, the port administration reaffirmed its commitment to the decarbonization of the maritime-port sector, as well as to promoting international cooperation initiatives that foster more sustainable development for port communities and logistics chains linked to foreign trade.
