Trade between Switzerland and Mexico reaches US$4.2 billion

The Ministry of Economy held a meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin; the Swiss Ambassador to Mexico, Pietro Piffaretti; and a delegation composed of representatives from 30 Swiss companies interested in expanding their presence in the Mexican market.
Undersecretary of Foreign Trade Luis Rosendo Gutierrez led the meeting, during which both sides reiterated their interest in finalizing the modernization of the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA)—comprising Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein—as well as making progress on updating the bilateral agreement between Mexico and Switzerland.
The Swiss official noted that investment flows continue to increase and revealed that in 2025, Swiss investment in Mexico reached approximately US$2.3 billion, reflecting the dynamism of the bilateral economic relationship. He also highlighted that trade and investment between the two countries have shown an upward trend in recent years.
According to figures presented during the meeting, bilateral trade reached US$4.2 billion in 2025, while the Ministry of Economy noted that Switzerland remains a strategic partner for Mexico in Europe.
Currently, Switzerland ranks eighth among Mexico’s European trading partners and is the seventh-largest source of foreign direct investment from Europe, with a significant business presence in sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, technology, and services.
