Interoceanic Train seeks to become permanent logistics transport

The Mexican government is seeking to establish the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) as a permanent logistics route for the automotive industry, following Hyundai’s shipment of 3,000 vehicles via the Interoceanic Train.
During her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that her administration is working to formalize an agreement with the South Korean automaker that would allow for the permanent use of this rail and port infrastructure for the transport of vehicles.
The operation involved unloading vehicles from Asia at the port of Salina Cruz, transporting them by rail via the CIIT, and subsequently loading them at the port of Coatzacoalcos for shipment to the US market; if the contract is finalized, Hyundai would make this route a permanent logistics alternative for vehicle exports.
The operation represents a new step in the federal government’s strategy to promote the CIIT as a multimodal corridor capable of connecting the Pacific coast and the Gulf of Mexico, offering an additional option for the international transport of goods and vehicles.
