Cancún Airport Traffic Remains Steady
Cancún International Airport recorded its slowest day of the year this week, with 333 scheduled flights, including 166 arrivals and 167 departures.
Of the total, 78 arrivals and 78 departures were domestic flights, while international flights were limited to 88 arrivals and 89 departures. This data has been confirmed following three consecutive months of double-digit declines in international passenger traffic; air traffic continues to decline.
Between May and June, the lowest daily figures were around 370 flights, while in the second half of August, the decline deepened even further.
Reports from the Aeroportario del Surete Group (Asur) show that the international segment fell to 11.1% in May, 13.1% in June, and 12.7% in July. This marks the third consecutive month of losses of this magnitude, thus explaining the reduced connectivity observed in recent weeks.
The decline in air travel supply is part of a scenario that the hotel industry had already anticipated. Rodrigo Peña Segura, president of the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, explained that this summer there were quite a few problems due to the bankruptcy of Spirit Airlines, as well as route adjustments by other airlines in connection with the World Cup, there were increases in fuel costs, immigration operations in the United States, geopolitical tensions, and a perception of insecurity in the country.

Hotel operators and service providers have emphasized that the sector's recovery will depend heavily on the resumption of travel routes and an improvement in the perception of safety in the U.S. market.
Even so, De la Peña Segura pointed out that despite the results for this period, investors remain confident in the long term. Over the course of the year, there have been eight hotel openings and renovations.
