Querétaro Inaugurates Specialized Materials Research Laboratory
The Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITEM) has inaugurated the SMART-PerkinElmer Laboratory in Querétaro, a facility where the properties and behavior of materials in industrial and research applications are studied.
The new unit is the result of a collaboration between industry, academia, and the government, aimed at promoting applied research that has an impact on society, according to Javier Guzmán, vice president of research at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Emilia Campo Elizondo, PerkinElmer's direct sales manager in Mexico, has stated that the facilities will serve as a meeting point for academia and industry.
“The launch of these new research capabilities comes amid industrial growth that demands resilient materials,” said Marco Antonio Del Pret Tercero, the state's Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).
“This is happening at a particularly important time for our state. Querétaro is undergoing a period of intense growth and evolution; new investments are coming in, our companies are growing, and our industries are adopting increasingly sophisticated processes. Today, we need materials that are stronger, lighter, more efficient, and also more sustainable,” he said.
In her message, State Secretary of Education Martha Elena Soto Obregón explained that the laboratory will train students to address industry challenges.
