McEwen Mining to Build a Gold Plant in Sinaloa

McEwen Mining expects to begin construction in January of next year on a gold ore processing plant in Mocorito, Sinaloa, as part of the Fenix Project, which is expected to create approximately 300 jobs, according to the state government.

During the presentation of the initiative, Adrian Blanco Sáenz, McEwen Mining’s general manager for the United States and Mexico, noted that the goal is to begin commercial production in 2028. Once operational, the facility is expected to support approximately 500 jobs.

The Secretary of Economy, Diego Aguerrebere Espitia, stated that the agency maintains a policy of supporting productive projects that are expected to create jobs, as well as strengthen supply chains. He also noted that mining represents an opportunity for development when its benefits help improve living conditions in the areas where it operates.

Adrian Blanco Sáenz explained that more than 80% of the revenue generated by the project would remain in Sinaloa, due to the workforce made up of residents from neighboring communities and the involvement of local suppliers. He also noted that the company maintains corporate social responsibility programs focused on health, education, and infrastructure.
