SwissCham Projects US$4.8 Billion in Investment for Mexico
Swiss companies plan to invest more than US$4.8 billion in Mexico between 2025 and 2030, according to Francisco Martínez Domene, president of the Swiss-Mexican Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SwissCham).
Martínez Domene explained that the forecast is based on the Chamber’s investment barometer, which compiles data from more than 70 member companies operating across the country.
The Swiss business community in Mexico comprises more than 400 companies operating in various regions and sectors, including food, manufacturing, financial services, and industrial components.
Martínez Domene noted that Switzerland is Mexico’s sixth-largest foreign investor. He also highlighted the importance of bilateral trade, noting that Mexico has become Switzerland’s leading source of imports in Latin America.
“Switzerland has had a presence in Mexico for many years. We have companies that have been operating in the country for more than 50 years. Currently, Switzerland is the sixth-largest investor in Mexico, and year after year, we have been climbing the rankings,” he said.
Regarding infrastructure and investment projects, the executive said Plan Mexico offers investment opportunities for domestic and international companies, particularly through initiatives aimed at creating formal jobs.
He also highlighted efforts to modernize the bilateral agreement following Swiss President Guy Parmelin’s visit to Mexico. During the visit, Parmelin and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to launch a process to renew and modernize the agreement, ensuring its long-term continuity.
Finally, Martínez Domene discussed opportunities in Mexico’s financial sector for Swiss institutions specializing in corporate and investment banking.
“For now, the companies here are primarily focused on investment banking and corporate banking. We do not rule out the possibility that Swiss retail banks and fintech companies may enter the market in the future. Mexico has a relatively low level of banking penetration, creating significant growth potential for the banking and financial sector,” he said.”
