Mexican Aluminum to Grow thanks to AI and Aerospace Industry
Aluminum exports to the United States and other international markets are expected to grow by 7.8% in 2026, driven by demand from artificial intelligence data centers, electromobility, and SpaceX’s investments in Texas, according to Ramón Beltrán, president of the National Chamber of the Aluminum Industry (Canalum).
“We expect to close out this year with growth of between 7.5% and 7.8% in domestic and international aluminum sales,” Beltrán said, citing demand from smart technologies, electromobility, the automotive industry, housing, and aerospace.
“Many companies in Mexico supply the artificial intelligence and cloud computing industries, as well as manufacturers of servers and supercomputers,” the industry representative explained.
In 2025, Mexico exported US$3.3 billion worth of aluminum to the United States and sold US$1.1 billion to Europe and Latin America, according to the Ministry of Economy (SE).
Mexican manufacturers are expected to import 2.132 million metric tons of aluminum and related materials in 2025, according to the ministry.
“We do not produce primary aluminum, which is the basic ingot obtained from the ore, but we do produce secondary aluminum, which is used in other alloys,” Beltrán explained. These materials are used to manufacture automotive wheels, servers, AI components, and aerospace equipment.
