Mercado Libre Expands Hidalgo Operations
Mercado Libre has inaugurated Mexico's first distribution center equipped with robotic technology, a facility spanning more than 100,000 m² in the PLATAH Industrial Park in Villa de Tezontepec, Hidalgo. The complex began operations with 240 autonomous robots, a figure expected to exceed 1,000 units once it reaches full operational capacity.
The opening marks a step forward in the automation of the company's logistics infrastructure, aimed at increasing order-processing capacity and improving the efficiency of warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution operations.
At the inauguration ceremony, attended by President Claudia Sheinbaum and Hidalgo Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar, David Geisen, CEO of Mercado Libre Mexico, explained that the robots are primarily designed to load and transport products. Each unit can carry up to 800 kilograms and move autonomously throughout the facility, including to designated charging stations.
Geisen also stated that the company plans to increase its processing capacity in Hidalgo from 6.8 million to more than 15 million packages per month by 2027, more than doubling its current capacity.
The new facility further strengthens Mercado Libre's presence in Hidalgo, where the company has operated since 2024.
The inauguration expands Mercado Libre's logistics infrastructure in central Mexico, introducing technology designed to streamline the movement and processing of goods.
