Office to process ‘express line’ extends its closure
YSLETA – The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office reported that the temporary closure of the Trusted Traveler Program registration centers that include the offices at the Ysleta Bridge for SENTRI Lane procedures, the so-called 'Express Line', has been extended until at least the first days of July.
"CBP is taking this precautionary step to minimize exposure of the public and CBP personnel to the new coronavirus (Covid-19)," the agency said in a statement.
The temporary closure applies to all publicly accessible Global Entry registration centers, NEXUS registration centers, SENTRI registration centers and FAST registration locations. Global Entry mobile registration events will also be paused until further notice.
"Conditionally approved Trusted Traveler Program applicants who seek an interview at an enrollment center must reschedule their appointment using the online scheduling tool in early July," the agency said.
These applicants are encouraged to check their email and Trusted Traveler Program accounts for more information. In the meantime, CBP said it will continue to monitor the situation in order to resume registration center interviews as soon as possible.
CBP's "sign-up-on-arrival" program will remain in place. Conditionally approved Global Entry applicants may complete the registration process upon arrival on an international flight at any of the airports offering this program.
"This is a bit discouraging, because even though there is a possibility to sign up, we don't know when it's our turn and the express line is a basic thing when the normal crossings are resumed," said Westside resident, Arnulfo Romero.
