This Monday, the Aeromexico-Delta alliance launched a direct flight from Queretaro to Detroit, Michigan, which will run three days a week. The route will be covered by an Embraer 190 with a capacity for 99 passengers, of which 11 are premier class seats, announced on Friday at a press conference Governor Francisco Dominguez Servien.

Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Queretaro (Sedesu), will travel on the inaugural flight to make a brief tour around Michigan in search of closer commercial ties between both states, especially for the automotive and aerospace industries.

From Monday through Thursday, the official will meet representatives of six companies, a network of entrepreneurs, an automotive network, an aerospace cluster and officials at the Consulate of Mexico in Detroit.

“The Detroit region is not only the birthplace of the auto industry, but it now produces more cars and trucks than anywhere else in the United States. In 2017, more than 2 million trucks and automobiles rolled out of 11 assembly plants in Michigan,” explained Del Prete.

In Michigan, there are more than 1,600 manufacturing facilities related to the automotive sector and 96 of the top 100 auto suppliers in North America are based in there.

The region has been producing an automotive patent per day over the last 50 years and is currently shaping up to be the main development center for autonomous vehicles.

“In addition, it has 11 assembly plants that represent 20% of the U.S. production, more than in any other state. In that state, more than US$10 billion are invested annually in automotive research and development, that’s 75% of the total for the United States,” said the state official.
