AICM is already in charge of the Navy

MEXICO CITY - The Federal Government made official that Grupo Aeroportuario de la Ciudad de México (GACM), Servicios Aeroportuarios de la Ciudad de México (SACM) and the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) are no longer part of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) and will now be under the control of the Ministry of the Navy.

In a radio interview, Carlos Ignacio Velázquez Tiscareño, director of the AICM, explained that this infrastructure is already in the hands of the Navy, and what was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation only corresponds to the procedure for it to leave the SICT to be under the control of said agency.

"Now our procedures will be much faster and in accordance with the way the Navy works, mainly in decision-making, logistics and more immediate results. At the end of the day, we already have the whole structure," he said.

This change, he explained, is carried out because in previous years there was a systemic neglect in airport terminals since the service was deficient, with poorly used areas and equipment, which generated acts aimed at compromising the safety of civil aviation and air transportation.

Therefore, the Navy will have surveillance, inspection, support and control operations at the airport to neutralize the trafficking of arms, drugs, foreign currency, illegal merchandise and to prevent human trafficking.
