Construction sector reports annual decline

The value of production in Mexico's construction industry remained flat month-over-month in March and reported a 1% year-over-year decline, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).


In March 2026—based on seasonally adjusted data—the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC) showed no monthly growth, causing the annual contraction to accelerate slightly.


Total employment in construction companies fell by 0.3% on a monthly basis last March. By type of employment, non-permanent staff fell by 0.4% and permanent staff by 0.3%.


On an annual basis, in March 2026, total employment was down by 3.2%.


Real average wages and salaries paid rose 0.3% on a monthly basis. By component, wages paid to laborers rose 0.5%, while salaries paid to administrative, accounting, and management staff fell 0.3%.
