DEACERO produces steel with 77% fewer CO₂ emissions.

DEACERO Group has released its Sustainability Report, which details progress that positions Mexican steel among the global leaders in decarbonization.
The company has highlighted that it has produced steel with a CO₂ emission intensity 77% lower than the global average, according to the World Steel Association’s methodology—a performance that places it in the green steel category, as classified by the CRU study.
One of the key developments during this period was that DEACERO became the first steelmaker in the world to simultaneously obtain validation of its climate targets under the Steel Core Boundary of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and certification from the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC)—a recognition that strengthens the global credibility of its decarbonization strategy.
One of the key milestones for DEACERO was becoming the first steelmaker in the world to simultaneously obtain validation of its climate targets under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)’s Steel Core Boundary and certification from the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC)—a recognition that strengthens the global credibility of its decarbonization strategy.
As part of this strategy, DEACERO accelerated the integration of renewable energy into its operations. The company has increased the share of clean energy sources in its electricity mix from 5% to 15%, while maintaining its commitment to raise that proportion to 60% in the future.
Thanks to this energy transition, DEACERO has already prevented the emission of approximately 400,000 metric tons of CO₂, and aims to reduce emissions by at least 1.2 million metric tons of CO₂e in the future.
The executive emphasized that sustainability is no longer merely an environmental commitment but has become a strategic factor in competitiveness for the steel industry.
In addition, the company has strengthened its financial position by securing international green financing to support its sustainable growth strategy.
