Fiat Chrysler to start production of Jeep Compass at Toluca plant in January

The 2017 Jeep Compass will be built at four plants around the world, with the U.S. spec version slated to go into production at Fiat Chrysler’s Toluca Assembly plant in Toluca, Mexico in January, the company announced in recent days.
The Compass, which debuted last week at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, is described by FCA as a “a truly global all-new compact SUV,” that will be sold to consumers “in more than 100 countries around the world.”
For Asian markets, FCA’s Guangzhou, China plant will handle production. The Compass entered production at the automaker’s plant there on November 6th, 2016, reports The Detroit Free Press. The new facility opened earlier this year and also builds the Jeep Renegade for China.
Compasses set for European markets will be built at FCA’s plant in Ranjangaon, India in spring 2017. The plant is the result of FCA’s partnership with Tata Motors and also builds the Fiat Avventura and Fiat Punto Evo. The Brazilian-spec Compass, which debuted in September, will be built at the automaker’s new plant in in Pernambuco, Brazil.
FCA recently revised its manufacturing structure, cancelling production of the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 in order to free up production capacity to build more SUVs, crossovers and trucks in the United States. The 2006-2016 model year Compass was built at FCA’s Belvidere, Illinois plant, which will eventually build the Jeep Cherokee after production of the mid-size SUV is moved from Jeep’s Toledo, Ohio assembly plant.
