Ford Plans to Produce New Crossover in Hermosillo

Ford Motor Company is developing a crossover that will become the brand’s most affordable model and is tentatively scheduled to be produced in Mexico starting in 2029.

According to a report by AutoNews, the vehicle was shown in a video to dealerships during a private meeting in Las Vegas alongside a prototype of a four-door Ford Mustang that made headlines in the automotive press.

Testimonials gathered by the U.S. media outlet indicate that the crossover, whose design is not yet final, has a boxy and wide appearance, similar to the first generation of the Ford Escape.

The vehicle, which still has no official name, will have a starting price of around $25,000 and will be available with both gasoline and hybrid powertrains.

Although Ford did not provide further details, the report states that at least three separate sources revealed that the Blue Oval plans to produce a vehicle with these specifications at its assembly plant in Hermosillo, Sonora.

However, when asked to confirm this program, company spokespeople declined to comment.

As for the four-door Mustang prototype, several witnesses compared its size and design to that of a Porsche Panamera, but with more rear-seat space.

According to attendees, executives explained that the vehicle—whose tentative name will be Mustang Mach-4—will have a starting price below $40,000 and accelerate from 0 to 96 kilometers per hour in less than 4 seconds.
