German polypropylene film manufacturer Treofan invests US$ 45 million at Mexican plant

Treofan, a Germany-based manufacturer of specialty biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, is investing US$ 45 million in a new 5-layer, 10.4 meters orientation line at its plant in Zacapu, Michoacan.

The new asset, due to begin operation in the fourth quarter of 2018, will result in a net capacity increase of some 30,000 tons per year or 50% of the plant's current capacity as an existing small line from 1992 will be mothballed.

Treofan has grown its Mexican business consistently over the past 20 years with investments so far totaling US$ 100 million in two lines of 8.5 and 8.2 meters.

"The additional asset represents the next phase of the Group's reinvestment strategy which was initiated in 2014 at our facility in Neunkirchen, Germany", comments Jon Knight, CEO Treofan Americas. "The advanced capacity and capabilities will enable us to continue to grow with our valued customers in our key markets."
