As is happening in the United States and Canada, in Mexico, and specifically in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, the staff cut announced a few months ago by General Motors for North America began last week.
Local media reported that several employees of high positions were dismissed this week, which generated uncertainty in the rest of the staff, although no concrete figures were released.
Websites such as Vanguardia asked General Motors Mexico's Communication Department figures on both layoffs and people who accepted some type of voluntary leave, but the automaker declined to release such data.
The company only said that “As announced in December, General Motors is taking actions to continue transforming the company in order to be more agile, resilient and profitable, while ensuring the future of the company. "
“One of those actions is the transformation of the workforce, which includes a reduction of 15% of salaried personnel in North America (United States, Canada and Mexico),” the statement concluded.
