Grupo Modelo US$ 756-million brewery is practically completed and ready to go

Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, expects to increase its production capacity between 8 and 9% during 2019 with the opening of its eighth plant in Mexico, but also expects to increase its domestic sales at double-digit rates.

In a recent interview with Notimex, the vice president of Corporate Affairs, Andres Gutierrez, said that the brewery, located in Apan, Hidalgo, will have an initial production capacity of 12 million hectoliters, which is equivalent to producing 9.25 million bottles of 355 milliliters each day.

This plant, in which the company invested US$ 756 million, will eventually double its capacity to 24 million hectoliters.

“The plant is practically finished, it is ready to start operations. We have already made some temporary tests (...) we are ready to start 2019 announcing its opening,” he said.

The executive stressed that there is a certain boom in Mexican beer around the world and it is expected to continue, which is why export capacity is increasing. Even, he said, it is feasible to exceed the export volume of Brazil's beer industry.
