Industry will invest US$45 million in vaccines against COVID-19

TIJUANA – The border productive sector, made up of the Maquiladora Industry in Tijuana, the National Chamber of Autotransport and the Association of Customs Agencies, will invest US$45 million in the purchase of vaccines against COVID-19, informed Salvador Díaz González, president of the Association of Industrialists of the Mesa de Otay de Tijuana (AIMO).

During a virtual dialogue with Omar Sarabia Esparza, president of the State Steering Committe of the PRD in BC, and Jaime Martínez Veloz, president of the Center for Studies and Projects of the Northern Border, discussed the problems caused by the pandemic in the sector.

On his part, the president of the AIMO highlighted that the effort of the productive sector, especially the manufacturing sector to keep the integrity of the labor fleet safe.

After the announcement that the private sector could obtain the vaccine, the AIMO director reported that the Maquiladora Industry in Tijuana, along with other institutions, have initiated procedures with the federal authorities and have contacted the directors of Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies to obtain one and a half million vaccines against COVID-19.

“The objective is to inoculate 750,000 workers, operators, drivers, middle managers, managers, customs agency personnel and the entire chain of workers that make up the industrial sector, free of charge,” he concluded.
