Jalisco’s Energy Plan: Toward industrial transition

During the presentation of the Jalisco State Energy Development Plan—which took place at Ecomondo and RE+ Mexico 2026—Manuel Herrera, head of the Jalisco Secretariat of Sustainable Energy Development, explained that the state faces a complex situation in which it currently imports nearly 35% of the energy it consumes.
The state plan is built on three pillars: energy security, competitiveness, and sustainability, reflecting how energy has become a key factor in attracting investment.
One of the biggest challenges is the rapid growth in demand, driven by the technology and industrial sectors. This phenomenon requires a rethinking of energy planning and the accelerated implementation of solutions.
Given the pressure on infrastructure, energy efficiency is positioned as a key tool, and with a comprehensive strategy, the state hopes to position itself as a leader in energy transition in Mexico.
The challenge Jalisco will now face is translating this vision into infrastructure, investment, and concrete results in the short and medium term.
