Mexico and Japan reinforce trade relations

In a conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaichi, President Claudia Sheinbaum noted that both leaders agreed on the need to strengthen trade relations; she emphasized that, given the difficult situation caused by the conflict in the Middle East and its impact on the oil market, the Japanese prime minister asked Mexico to explore the possibility of selling more crude oil to Japan.
Sheinbaum said at a press conference that Mexico will increase its collaboration with Japan on environmental issues—a partnership that dates back several years to the financing of a reforestation project in Mexico—which has led to significant cooperation in this area.
The president said the conversation proved to be very productive, during which they discussed the importance of strengthening relations between both countries in the areas of investment, trade, and cooperation. She thanked the Environmental Cooperation Agency for its support in river cleanup and air pollution control, proposing to continue expanding this framework.
She noted that there are currently 1,600 Japanese companies operating in Mexico that generate 350,000 jobs; therefore, they agreed to continue working on the strategic bilateral relationship.
