Mexico Seeks to Expand Its Role in the Global Space Industry

Mexico is seeking to strengthen its position in the global space industry through a strategy focused on integrating its aerospace ecosystem, advancing technological innovation, and fostering collaboration among companies, academia, and government.
Key efforts are being led by organizations such as Federación Mexicana de la Industria Aeroespacial and Agencia Espacial Mexicana, which are promoting the creation of a national space commission. The initiative aims to help Mexican aerospace firms expand into space-related activities by leveraging existing capabilities in manufacturing, technology, and specialized talent.
The strategy focuses on connecting manufacturers, suppliers, research centers, and universities to build a more complete value chain, enabling Mexico to compete in a rapidly growing global market.
This push comes at a time when the space industry is experiencing accelerated global growth, driven by private investment and technological advances. The sector now extends beyond launches to include satellite services, advanced manufacturing, and a wide range of industrial applications.
For Mexico, developing a stronger space industry represents a strategic opportunity to diversify its economy, increase the value of its production, and move into higher-tech segments. It also builds on the country’s established aerospace base, particularly in regions like Querétaro and Chihuahua, where the sector has shown consistent growth and job creation.
However, experts note that Mexico’s potential in the space sector remains underutilized. Strengthening investment, implementing clear public policies, and expanding talent development will be critical for competing with global players.
Through these efforts, Mexico aims to take the next step in its industrial evolution—moving from aeronautical manufacturing toward a more prominent role in the space economy, one of the fastest-growing sectors in the coming decades.
