Nissan closes 2023 as sales leader in Mexico

MEXICO - Nissan Mexicana consolidated its position as leader in the Mexican automotive market at the end of 2023, standing out in sales, production and exports of light vehicles, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

Last year, Nissan sold a total of 241,056 light vehicles, achieving a market share of 17.70%. This figure represented a 42.7% growth compared to 2022, a figure only lower than those observed by Subaru, SEAT, Mazda, Lexus, Land Rover and Chirey Motor. In December 2023, the Japanese company sold 24,514 light vehicles, equivalent to 17.14% of total sales in the country during that period.

Nissan Mexicana also stood out in automotive production by manufacturing 615,751 light vehicles in 2023, evidencing a significant growth of 57.5% compared to the previous year. This increase positioned Nissan as the second largest manufacturer in the country, accounting for 16.29% of total vehicle production in Mexico. Only General Motors manufactured more vehicles in the year, with 722,631 (19.12% of total production in Mexico).

In December 2023, the Japanese company produced 35,791 light vehicles, an increase of 6% over the same month of the previous year.

On the export side, Nissan experienced a 53.4% increase, exporting a total of 367,014 light vehicles in 2023, representing 11.11% of the total. In this aspect, General Motors led with 721,886 exported vehicles, followed by Stellantis and Ford.
