Nuevo Leon: Main generator of manufacturing jobs

Nuevo Leon emerged as the nation’s leading state in manufacturing job creation from January through May 2026. According to official figures from the IMSS, the state recorded 19,966 new manufacturing jobs in the first five months of the year. With this progress, the state reached a historic high of 675,000 formal workers in this sector, ranking as the highest figure in the entire country.
The state’s advantage in the industrial sector becomes even more evident when comparing its figures with the rest of the country. With 19,966 new jobs, the state nearly doubles the performance of its closest competitor, Jalisco, which recorded 10,513 jobs during the same period.
Within the state’s economic landscape, the manufacturing industry reaffirmed itself as the main driver of the labor market, accounting for more than 51% of total jobs.
In the overall assessment of all economic sectors, Nuevo Leon generated a total of 38,566 new formal jobs between January and May 2026, figures that strengthen its position as one of the pillars of the Mexican economy.
