Pandemic impacted research projects in NL

MONTERREY – The dynamism of the Research and Technological Innovation Park (PIIT) decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of its 30 research centers reduced their speed to serve their clients remotely and others stopped their projects.

"There was an impact, capacities are starting to be reestablished, they are helping companies so they can attend their clients remotely," said Abraham Tijerina Priego, coordinator of the Nuevo León 4.0 initiative.

The executive added that the Center for Engineering and Industrial Development (CIDESI) and the Conacyt Center of Querétaro work together to support companies in automated systems, electronics and control and advanced manufacturing; which is one of the advantages of having the capacity to meet demand.

In addition, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), the Tecnológico de Monterrey and the University of Monterrey (UDEM), through its Cyber Security Center, and the Software Council of Nuevo León are providing infrastructure to complement the centers that are in the PIIT.

Tijerina Priego commented that activity in research centers has begun to regenerate as the state health system has allowed the opening of sectors that were considered non-essential.
