Quintana Roo Seeks Aerospace Growth

The Mexican Army, through initiatives linked to the Feria Aeroespacial Mexicana, is promoting a strategy to attract aerospace investment to Quintana Roo, aiming to diversify its economy beyond tourism and position it as an emerging industrial hub.

The plan focuses on leveraging one of the region’s key competitive advantages: its airport infrastructure. Quintana Roo is the only state in Mexico with four international airports—Cancún International Airport, Tulum International Airport, Cozumel International Airport, and Chetumal International Airport—creating strong potential for the development of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations.

According to industry officials, there is growing interest in establishing aerospace service facilities across the state and the broader Yucatán Peninsula, which could support the high volume of commercial flights arriving in the region each day.

The strategy also emphasizes collaboration between local governments, domestic companies, and international investors, with business engagement being promoted through industry events such as the Tulum Air Show 2026.

In addition, the initiative is part of a broader regional vision that includes neighboring states like Yucatán and Campeche, aiming to build a new aerospace ecosystem in southeastern Mexico. Experts note that achieving this will require sustained investment, long-term planning, and coordination across both public and private sectors.

With Mexico’s aerospace industry projected to reach approximately $13 billion in production, this strategy highlights the potential for new regions like Quintana Roo to integrate into the country’s expanding high-tech manufacturing landscape.
