UK-based Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems announced is moving its structural manufacturing operations in Akron, Ohio, to Kentucky and Mexico. As result of this closure, 70 jobs will be relocated.

“After an extensive review of our current operations and customer demand, in what is a very competitive arena with ever more demands on higher levels of service and rapid turnaround, we have identified the need to reduce the overall global footprint,” said the company in a press release

The production of parts for military and commercial aircraft will be moved to the company’s Danville, Kentucky, and Queretaro, Mexico facilities. Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems also operates a facility in Fresnillo, Zacatecas.

The company said the rest of the Akron campus, including the carbon brake disk production, engineering, business and commercial divisions, will be “largely unaffected by this restructure.”
