US$14 billion allocated to electrical infrastructure

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the federal government will invest US$14 billion to strengthen the national power grid’s infrastructure, with a special focus on distribution and transmission networks, in order to meet the growing demand for energy in various regions of the country, particularly during periods of high temperatures.
During her daily press conference at the National Palace, the president was asked about the recent power outages in Hermosillo, Sonora, which left approximately 120,000 people without electricity for periods of up to 26 hours, amid temperatures nearing 45 degrees.
In her response, Sheinbaum emphasized that this is not an issue related to energy production, but rather to distribution and transmission, and she highlighted the amount of investment planned to strengthen the electricity sector.
The President indicated that these resources will make it possible to strengthen the electrical infrastructure to meet the growing demand for energy in various parts of the country.
Regarding the specific situation in Hermosillo and the request from business leaders and developers to build two new substations to support the city’s growth, Sheinbaum stated that the Federal Electricity Commission is already addressing the issue in coordination with the state government.
