Vehicle exports from Mexico to the United States have fallen by 8%.

In February 2025, the Mexican automotive industry recorded positive results in production, but faced a decrease in the export of light vehicles, according to data from INEGI's Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL).

Production reached 317,178 units, a 0.8% decrease compared to the same month of 2024. For the first two months of the year, production reached 629,435 units, a growth of only 0.40% compared to 2024.

The downward trend continues in light vehicle exports, which totaled 258,952 units, representing a 9.2% decrease compared to February of the previous year. In the first two months of the year, exports totaled 478,366 units, 11.4% less than in 2024.

The United States remains the main destination, with 402,986 units exported, equivalent to 84.2% of total Mexican exports; however, vehicle exports from Mexico to the United States have fallen by -8.0% in January-February 2025 versus the previous year.

Canada ranks second with 41,804 units (8.7% share), followed by Germany with 8,730 vehicles (1.8% share). It is curious that Mexico's light vehicle exports to Canada have grown by 9.9% in the January-February cumulative period versus 2024, while exports to Germany have fallen by -51.5% in the same period.

By brands, General Motors reported a -6.6% reduction in production and -15.5% in exports in the first two months of 2025.

Volkswagen has had the largest decline in production with -38.3% and a -41.9% drop in exports, which is reflected in the overall contraction of exports to Germany.

Stellantis has had the worst drop in vehicle exports from Mexico, with -46.1% in the first two months of 2025; in production this drop has been -25%.

In the same period, Nissan has grown by 7.6% in manufacturing, but its shipments abroad dropped by -16.% compared to 2024. This result shows the power that the domestic market represents for the Japanese brand. Mazda had similar results, with a 7.0% growth in production and a 20.0% drop in exports.

Toyota stood out with an increase of 153% in production and 207% in exports. KIA also showed a strong performance, with an increase of 28.9% in production and 25.1% in exports.
