Volkswagen starts production of Tiguan 2025 in Puebla
PUEBLA - Volkswagen de México has started production of the Tiguan 2025 at its Puebla plant, marking the beginning of the third generation of this successful model. The SUV's first destination will be the Mexican market, reaffirming the country's importance in the German brand's strategy.
Since 2017, the Puebla plant has produced more than 1.3 million units of this compact SUV. With the start of the new version, Volkswagen confirms its position as a key player in the North American region.
“The first production destination for the new Tiguan is Mexico, which confirms the importance of the local market for the Volkswagen brand's strategy in this segment,” said the automaker in a statement.
For this project, the Puebla plant has strengthened its production capabilities by building a new paint shop equipped with 100% electric technology, capable of painting up to 90 vehicles per hour. In addition, important adjustments were made, such as the replacement of dies and the installation of elevated tunnels for the transfer of bodywork. These changes made it possible to integrate the New Jetta and New Tiguan processes into a single production segment, reaching a combined capacity of more than 1,000 units per day.
The Tiguan 2025 is built on the MQB evo platform, an evolution of the Transverse Modular Platform, which optimizes manufacturing through shared components. This model features a revamped body with a shorter rear overhang, longer wheelbase, and a more spacious and adaptable interior.
In addition, technological advances were incorporated as an infotainment system with larger screen, the Digital Cockpit Volkswagen instrument panel, and new safety features and driving assistance.
The new generation will be equipped with 150 kW and 200 kW EA888 2.0L engines, which will be destined for the U.S. and Canadian markets. Engine production for this model takes place at Volkswagen's Guanajuato plant, which complements the Puebla plant's efforts to provide highly efficient and technologically advanced engines.
This is the Puebla plant's third launch in 2024, following the manufacturing starts of the New Jetta and New Taos.
“With the Tiguan 2025, we reaffirm our position as a key player in North America,” said Holger Nestler, president and CEO of Volkswagen de México,
‘This SUV, made with the experience and quality of our manufacturing in our vehicle plants in Puebla and engine plants in Guanajuato, has all the attributes to meet the high expectations of our customers,’ he concluded.
